Day 1: Arrival in Windhoek

After landing in Windhoek, a meet & greet awaits you at the airport. Our local contact will ensure a smooth handover of the hire car and you can start your Astro journey through this beautiful and varied country in a relaxed manner.

Stroll through Windhoek in the afternoon, visit the famous Ink Palace and the old fortress. In the evening, you can dine at “Joe’s Beer House”, where excellent local dishes such as springbok and zebra steak are on the menu.

Day 2: Continue to die Kalahari

Today your Astro Journey starts in the southern part of Namibia.
After an impressive drive into the southern part of Namibia, you will reach your lodge in the Kalahari in the afternoon. Spend the rest of the day relaxing by the pool and enjoying the Namibian sun.

After dinner, set off on an adventurous safari through the eerie atmosphere of the desert night. Observe nocturnal animals such as the aardwolf, wild cats or owls in the moonlight.

Day 3: Cheetah Excursion & "Stargazing"

Today you embark on a cheetah excursion. The cheetah excursion gives you the opportunity to experience the fastest land animal on earth at close quarters. Take unforgettable photos of these magnificent, graceful cats of prey. The guides will be happy to provide you with information about the breeding and history of the cheetahs.

After dinner – View the spectacular southern hemisphere sky from the observatory with a state-of-the-art computerised telescope. The local astronomer will show you the planets of our solar system, the moon, star clusters and distant galaxies and will be happy to tell you the details. In this part of the world, the air is particularly clear and provides a breathtaking view of the night sky.

Hotel: Bagatelle Farmhouse - 2 Nights

This exclusive part of the lodge offers the best views of our dunes and the pans and gives you the opportunity to observe some of our wildlife up close. You will appreciate the benefits of our farmhouse. Our farmhouse has eight guest rooms, four standard rooms and four luxury rooms.

Standard room
All rooms are elegantly and comfortably furnished and have an en-suite bathroom with hot water shower, running water and toilet. Air-conditioning, tea/coffee stations and a bar fridge. In this area of the lodge you will quickly understand what exclusive nature means. Relax in the farmhouse with a sundowner cocktail on the spacious terrace overlooking the pan before dining in the dining room with a view of the Kalahari.

Day 4: Continue to Sossusvlei

After breakfast, continue with your hire car to Sossusvlei, around 350 km away (journey time approx. 4 hours).
After an impressive drive through the sea of sand, you will reach your lodge in the late afternoon. Spend the rest of the day relaxing by the pool and enjoying the Namibian sun. The rest of the day is at leisure.

Each chalet at Kwessi Dunes has a separate “stargazing” room that is completely open to the sky and the perfect place to watch the celestial theatre.

Day 5: Sossusvlei and the "Dead Vlei"

Today you embark on a discovery tour to the impressive rust-red dunes in Sossusvlei – here you will find “Dune 45”, one of the highest sand dunes in the world. For the next 5 kilometres, the off-road vehicle takes you to the Dead Vlei, a salt pan with dead trees.

Kwessi Dunes is a Sossusvlei safari camp situated deep within Namibia's stunning NamibRand Nature Reserve, a vast desert wilderness of over 200,000 hectares. With its rolling desert plains and backdrop of rugged mountains and iconic red dunes, this is a place where time seems to stand still and the vastness is endless. It's not about hunting big game here, but enjoying the beauty of the colourful landscape, admiring the antelope in the sand and marvelling at the stars in the night sky.

Chalet
At Kwessi Dunes you will find 12 cool and comfortable (and air-conditioned) chalets, all with tented walls and thatched roofs. Each bedroom has a separate 'stargazing' room, completely open to the sky and the perfect place to watch the celestial theatre overhead. Von den Zimmern, dem Hauptbereich und dem Swimmingpool aus haben Sie einen herrlichen Blick auf die Wüste. Day 6: Continue to Rooisand

After breakfast, drive in a northerly direction to Rooisand, 240 kilometres away, for the highlight of your trip.
Rooisand Desert Ranch is situated on the edge of the Namib Desert in the central region of Namibia, between the mountain passes of the Gamsberg.

Day 7 to Day 9: Universe

“At night you can stand in your own shadow, even if there is no moon!”

With one of the least light-polluted skies in the world, the Gamsberg region is one of the best places for astrophotography. Thanks to its remote location, light pollution is very low here and the night sky is super clear. In Rooisand you can take impressive photos of the Milky Way and many other celestial objects.

Guests share the central area of the ranch with the thatched restaurant and cosy bar, from where they have easy access to the sparkling 16-metre swimming pool.Spend the day playing tennis, hiking the farm grounds, enjoying a scenic drive, swapping a book in the library or simply relaxing and enjoying Namibian-German hospitality and cuisine.

On a huge platform that extends behind the tennis courts (less than a hundred metres away), there are several observing sites available.
An EQ8, a Celestron CGE Pro and a Losmady G11 with FS2 on a steel column are available here all year round and there is plenty of space for other individual telescope combinations with tripods.

5 cool and spacious comfort double/twin en-suite rooms set in an amazingly diverse garden and 4 economy twin rooms with twin beds and en-suite bathrooms, with uninterrupted views of the nearby Gamsberg. A nearby waterhole happens to attract wildlife.

Day 10: Continue to Swakopmund.

After breakfast, continue your journey to Swakopmund, approx. 220 km away (journey time approx. 3 hours).

You will reach your next stop in the afternoon: Swakopmund welcomes you with its maritime flair and colourful houses.

Day 11: Optional Katamaran Tour oder Living Desert Tour

Catamaran tour in Walvis Bay (optional)
Today you travel to Walvis Bay, 40 kilometres away, where you take part in a catamaran tour on the Walvis Bay Lagoon. Enjoy fresh oysters and a glass of sparkling wine while watching out for dolphins and seals.

Living Desert Tour (Optional)
The desert is alive: Today you can explore the mysterious Namib Desert during a guided tour in an off-road vehicle. Follow the tracks of desert lizards and chameleons and enjoy the beauty of the dunes.

Hotel: Swakopmund Luxury Suites - 2 Nights

The charming courtyard of the Swakopmund Luxury Suites invites you to relax with comfortable seating. The property's public car park is guarded around the clock and can be used free of charge. The staff will be happy to help you with excursions and activities in the area.

This accommodation is a 12-minute walk from the beach. Swakopmund Luxury Suites offers air-conditioned accommodation and free WiFi. Day 12: Departure

After breakfast you drive 360km back to Windhoek Airport, or you drive to Walvis Bay and return your hire car after an eventful Namibia Astro trip. From Walvis Bay you fly back to Germany via Windhoek.
